Antique Crucifixion & Glass Holy Water Font, Lourdes, France Art Nouveau
This is an exquisite example of religious art at its finest. It is in excellent condition.
Colours are as shown in pictures.
This is a genuine Art Nouveau period piece circa 1900-1910.
The cross is made of Onyx and mounted on Brass.
At the top is the INRI acronym of the Latin inscription, IESVS·NAZARENVS·REX·IVDÆORVM.
(Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum), which translates to English as, "Jesus the Nazarene (Galilean) King of the Jews (Judeans)".
Centered on the cross is the depiction of the Crucifixion of Christ.
Below that is a Plaque that reads:
"STR de N.D. de LOURDES"
Below The Plaque, at the bottom of the Cross is a Beautiful Glass Font held to the Cross with a "beaded" metal band.
The cross is mounted on brass. I am not an expert on metals, so can only guess that the other metal objects are also made of brass.
Some signs of age and usage, but this is commensurate with age. This includes a small chip in the stone along one of the edges.
I do not clean antiques as most collectors prefer an "as is" condition.
Approximate measurements:
10 1/8" Tall x 5 1/2" Wide
See Photo for more measurements.
This item is quite heavy.
